Mid-point Statement

So I tried playing around with the silk pieces I received, different ways to bind them, as corresponding to the idea of embrace, being at the state of harmony.

However, no matter how I play with it, it just didn’t feel right. so I decided to put that idea aside, and look at my material, not only as a physical material, but also the psychic responses and the background of it.
Finally at one stage, the writings and labels on the three pieces if silk draw my eye, besides being a material from processes, it is also a commodity, immediately I thought of the word ‘silk road’. the event of cross border trading.

End point statement – Linda Huang

Looking back at the history of cross border trading, that initially flourished from the aspiration and appreciation of other cultures, However now has gradually evolved (?degenerated?) into an act of greed and exploitation.
The object that I have made is based on the current issue of BP patrol leakage.
Maybe this is a signal of coming to the edge of things, we shall embrace our thoughts, to reconsider our needs and priorities.

Biginning Statement

When i first receive the text and materials, I struggled with finding the correlation between them.
They are both rich in content, yet hard to be specific. So i started with interpreting the text:
-as a state of the mind when encountering a hard decision, involving 2 paths.
-or a state of harmony, with chances and risks embedded
=possibilities
images that the text illuded to in my minds are:
-waterful
-cliff
-ocean
-sunset/sunrise-horizon of sky and water/land meet.
-before thouder-storm

-moutain peak

Welcome to the edge of things
where sky sea land
and wandering souls
snatch a brief
embrace
