END STATEMENT – Jacquelene Reid

I believe, it has been said; the world would be a better place if we all tried to see something from someone else’s point of view.  It seems to me, after this exchange, that art can take on a better form if we try to see a medium, whether it is material or script, from someone else’s point of view.

Thank you, Saori, for the beautiful silk cocoons.  When I opened my parcel I was filled with joy, surprise and awe at this seemingly fragile treasure.  There is times when it is hard to improve on nature and this was certainly one of these times.

Thank you, Silvia, for a thought provoking Zen saying.  It certainly gave me an obsessive couple of weeks of ‘grass’ shopping.

So armed with your thoughts and subjectivity, I guess my first question to you is,

 ‘What do you see’?

MIDDLE STATEMENT – Jacquelene Reid

I seem to have become obsessed. A single-mindedness that has the tunnel-vision effect, of excluding all events around me and all conversation directed at me. While I am sure there are more important things in life to become obsessed about I am not sure I would hear you if tried to tell me.

So what is the object of my consuming obscurity, well it seems to be a Zen statement, which I am sure has the depth of all Zen statements, but I can’t get pass,

‘Grass’

BEGINNING STATEMENT – Jacquelene Reid

Objects and written pieces have been sent and received.

Some have sent script they have laboured over or, a philosopher’s musings that have prevailed through time.  Words that the sender has an investment in shaped into a form they hope others will see.  Or, instead of a passage, a single random word has been thrown out there by some people with humour and curiosity about response.

Objects add another layer for us to transcribe, gifts in many guises to tease us with their form.

So armed with my thoughts and subjectivity, I guess my first question is,

 ‘What do I see’?

From Silvia Potente to Jacquelene Reid

‘Pick up a stem of grass and the world comes with it’.
