Final Piece…Vanessa Arthur

Talk To Strangers Necklace - Found objects, rubber, copper.

I always change my mind!

New Material

Last week I finished my piece after fighting my pink shiny lens to the bitter end. Then with 5 days to go I had a change of heart, painted over the lens with enamel (such satisfaction) and started all over again….

I loved the curves and reflection of the lens but just couldn’t get past the colour.

I found my own lens to reference this and added my favourite colour,  ORANGE!

The text  I received prompted me to explore my environment.

My piece – like the city,  has hidden treasures to un-cover…if you take a minute to stop. And LOOK.

Ring with lens insert that I painted!

Stop winking at me with your pink 90′s shiny-ness!

Dear Material,

You are much too pink and shiny for my liking, you remind me of a bad pair of sunglasses I used to own.

I have cut you, shaped you, crushed you up, layered you and sprayed you with paint but your just not giving in…

you keep taunting me with your pink 90′s shiny-ness.

If we can’t work this out…

I may have to run you over with my car.

The cultivated wilderness…..

The wilderness is not a place you visit it is all around you, wherever you are.

- (Paul Shepheard, The cultivated wilderness, or, what is landscape?)

Layered histories of our city.

The constant need for ‘NEW’.

Unseen treasures in full view.

Beautiful decay.

Transformation.

Honey bees, bright skies & dancing monkeys………

Honey bees, bright skies & dancing monkeys……

Wellington’s winter environment is a world away from these shiney summertime lyrics!

Wild coastlines, character building southerly wind’s.

Crisp mornings, puddles.

Mostar seem to be wandering around lost in thought and the present moment……..I think i’ll go exploring!

The Honey Tree

Heard the buzzing of the honey bees

Making honey just for me and lifes alright

I think Ill end in feeling fine

 Just another perfect day

I think Ill walk this way with the trees I do sing

 Im feeling apart of everything

And all my troubles seem to fade away

They disappear with everything that you say

And now my weary head dont feel the same

The skies look brighter I can feel, feel the change

Feel the change

All the money in the world

Could never buy this soul lets go to where monkeys dance

The music floats throughout the land

And all my troubles seem to fade away

They disappear with everything that you say

And now my weary head dont feel the same

The skies look brighter I can feel, feel the change

I can feel, feel the change.
