A project with the jewellery studios of Sydney College of the Arts and Whitireia Community Polytechnic
The aim of this project is that each participant will produce one (or a small series) of jewellery pieces as a direct response to both a received piece of writing/text and a material. This material may form the basis of the work produced. The material and text received by each participant will come from different sources. The participant is also required to supply a good quality image (jpeg) of the completed piece (for website and print publication).
Each participant is required to:
- collect ONE material able to be mailed to either NZ/AUS. This material must not contravene any customs laws – check customs websites if unsure and send material as “a gift” on customs declaration.
- produce a PIECE of writing that can be emailed to either NZ/AUS. This emailed writing must not contain any images but you may consider font, colour of text, how you format your writing, your spelling etc. The writing may or may not be original, if not original it must be referenced with all sources acknowledged. The minimum number of words required is one word, there is no maximum.
- Upon receipt of your material and writing, produce a Beginning statement, this may be your initial impressions of the project, comments on/responses to the material/writing you have received, or it may encompass what they prompt you, to want to make. Produce a Mid point statement, this should record where you are currently at during the making process. Lastly, produce an End point statement, this could encapsulate your feelings on the whole project and/or possibly reflect on the end product of your making.
This blog is for you to post comments about the project as it progresses and allowing a forum for the participants to communicate with each other (in addition interested/curious parties are able to post comments or questions).
Following a curation process the selected pieces will be exhibited in a two week exhibition in Sydney at Studio 20/17 opening on the 10th of July 2010. The text supplied to each student will also form part of the exhibition as will the material (if not used up in the making of the piece) and the beginning, mid and end point statements
